Andy Warhol, the prince of Pop Art, created a series of 10 iconic figures from popular culture, ranging from Santa Claus to Mickey Mouse to the Wicked Witch of the West. That Myths porfolio of 10 screenprints is one of Warhol’s most sought-after collections. Now the collection has come to the J.B. Speed Art Museum: Andy Warhol: Myths runs through Sept. 30 — and that’s no myth!
Warhol didn’t create Pop Art, but no one’s name is more closely associated with the movement. In 1981, Warhol captured 10 modern icons from the cinema and modern lore that dominated popular culture as powerfully as the gods and goddesses of Greek and Roman myth dominated consciousnesses in their day. Most of the images in Warhol’s Myths series come from old Hollywood films or 1950s television. They portray the alluring mythos of America’s enchanted and powerful past, where villains were unambiguous, superheroes nobly protected the innocent and a plucky Everyman like Mickey Mouse was certain to triumph in the end.
In addition to Santa Claus, Mickey Mouse and The Witch, the other iconic mythical figures in the portfolio are Howdy Doody, Dracula, The Star, Superman, Mammy, The Shadow and Uncle Sam.
Warhol is best known for his ground-breaking exploration of popular culture, such as his Marilyn Monroe prints and his 1964 legendary print, Campbell's Soup Can.

Following is Daddy’s Dying -- Who’s Got the Will?, a comedy set in a small Texas town, which runs Oct. 8–17. Agnes, a mentally fragile novice nun gives birth to a child, who dies; Agnes insists that she, like the Virgin Mary, was visited by the Holy Spirit. Is it a miracle? Or madness?

2010–11 season at Hardin Playhouse begins Aug. 13

8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

The 2010–11 season for the Hardin County Playhouse begins with a classic children’s story, lets rip with a comedy, explores the a marriage on the rocks, packs in some Christmas cheer and ends with a rip-snorting Western-themed Broadway musical.
The Hardin County Playhouse begins the season Aug. 13 with Alice in Wonderland, the classic tale penned by Lewis Carroll. Following is Daddy’s Dying -- Who’s Got the Will?, a comedy set in a small Texas town, which runs Oct. 8–17. This year’s fall fundraiser, Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, won the Tony Award for Best Play and won the vote for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. The searing play runs Oct. 29–31.
Every year, the Hardin County Playhouse stages a holiday play. This year is no exception: The comedy Tis the Season runs Dec. 3–12.
After a hiatus, the Hardin County Playhouse tackles Leading Ladies, a new comedy by Ken Ludwig which recounts the hilarious cross-dressing attempt of two unemployed actors to obtain a legacy from an addled aunt. The show runs from Feb. 11–20. That’s followed by the riveting drama Agnes of God, which runs April 8–17. Agnes, a mentally fragile novice nun gives birth to a child, who dies; Agnes insists that she, like the Virgin Mary, was visited by the Holy Spirit. Is it a miracle? Or madness?
Closing the season and running June 3-12 is one of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s most popular musicals, Oklahoma! The 1943 Broadway show marked the first collaboration between Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and the musical proved so popular that it has been revived three times on Broadway.
At a time when tickets to live theater cost two days’ wages, prices at Hardin County Theatre performances are a downright steal! Tickets are $13 for children, senior citizens 55 and older, members of the military and those coming in groups of 10 or more; other adults pay just $2 more. You can buy tickets online or by calling (270) 351–0577. But with productions this fine, why not opt for a season subscription? That comes to just $72 for six shows!
Remember: Elizabethtown is on Eastern time.
You don’t have to just sit there, either! Like community theaters everywhere, the Hardin County Playhouse welcomes members of the public who wish to act or serve as technicians. You can find out details and the dates for auditions here. You’ll be doing a cold reading. No experience is required, and newcomers are welcome.

Kottonmouth Kings
Concert ⁄ Live Music
Time:
8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Location: Headliner's Music Hall, 1386 Lexington Road, Louisville, KY 40206
California based hip-hop/punk rock hybrid are sitting high on their own musical cloud of stoney vibrations. After breaking the Billboard Top 40 with no support from radio or MTV with their last studio album, the Kings showed the world why they are one of the biggest success stories in independent music today. On August 28th, 2007, The Kottonmouth Kings are looking to get a little higher with the release of Cloud 9. The group’s ninth studio album features 22 songs of musical mayhem that continues to push the group into uncharted territories.
"We really stepped it up on Cloud 9. We felt we needed to make a statement and take it to the next level," says frontman Brad X. "As we continue to evolve we don’t need to reinvent ourselves, we just magnify ourselves and continue to expand who we are and what we do. Cloud Nine is a more intense record but the climate of our world is more intense."
Cloud 9 also features some high-profile guest appearances from Cypress Hill's B-Real on "Ridin' High" and Sen Dog on "Darkside,” and "Think 4 Yourself" featuring Insane Clown Posse. The album also includes an appearance by Tech N9ne on “City 2 City,” which has already become one of the most requested songs on Sirius Satellite Radio FACTION channel, while the video for the track has been viewed over 150,000 times within a month of its release.
"I think it's the sickest adventure yet for Kottonmouth Kings," Daddy X says of the group's ninth studio album. "Musically, there's some sinister hip-hop stuff on there," Daddy X said of the album. "There are definitely some real mellow, stoney songs on there. And then there are some rip-hop songs, where we fuse punk rock and hip-hop. We brought that back on this record for some songs. It's just a classic Kottonmouth Kings record with a lot of diverse styles on it."

WEBN FIREWORKS

Time:
9:00 pm - 9:30 pm
Location: Newport Riverfront & the Covington Floodwall
THE FIREWORKS.:
Knowing where to park, what to bring and where to sit can make the spectacle enjoyable. The best way to get a good seat is to arrive early. The fireworks don't start until 9:05 p.m., but there will be events taking place all day for Riverfest. It's a good idea to arrive early to get a desirable seat.
One of the most popular places to watch the fireworks from Northern Kentucky is Devou Park. The hill-top offers a great view of the fireworks and the Cincinnati skyline. Other popular spots are the Newport Riverfront, the Covington Floodwall and the Serpentine Wall in Cincinnati.
''We now have the ability to break the show down and synchronize it to music to the tenth of a second. We have pinpoint cues,'' said Joel Moss, WEBN's creative services director.
Even Moss, who has produced the last 14 fireworks soundtracks, is awed by the ability to use a computer to produce a complex and dense show where the music matches perfectly with the booms.
''Of course people are always nervous about giving control to computers, but we feel comfortable that this will make for a very incredible show,'' he said as he fingered through a 50-page document that plots the fireworks and music down to the last second. Moss's soundtracks have always been mini-documentaries of the pop culture scene, and this year's should be no different. He hinted you can expect music and voice drops ranging from the ''Titanic'' soundtrack to ''South Park,'' from Frank Sinatra to Howdy Doody.
The basics
Fireworks: Zero hour is 9:05 p.m. on the Sunday before Labor Day. The synchronized musical soundtrack can be heard on 102.7 WEBN-FM.
